The United Methodist Women (UMW) is a global organization of over 800,000 who trace their beginnings to a rainy day in the year 1869 outside the Tremont Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston. The women who assembled that day founded the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society and succeeded in raising funds to send two female missionaries - one a doctor and the other a teacher -to India to assist the women of that country. This enterprising tradition of service was the forerunner of today’s United Methodist Women.
The purpose of the UMW is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Currently, the Trinity UMW has over 120 members, who actively pursue the tradition of service inspired by Jesus Christ. Trinity’s UMW is a 5 star unit of the North Central District of the UMW, providing funds to District and Conference missions. Small groups are one of our major components; we have seven circles meeting monthly to socialize and share concerns, joys, religious education, fellowship and fun. In addition, each month we provide a general meeting highlighting a scheduled speaker with information on missions or local charitable organizations. Refreshments are provided and everyone is always welcome. Educational, fellowship and spiritual opportunities are available to UMW members through our local unit, the District and Conference meetings with numerous gatherings throughout the year. Check the Florida Conference website for upcoming events and registration information.
