Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah I consider my back porch, which overlooks a sparkling creek and the forest beyond it, to be my Shangri-La. I love to end each day there, listening to the birds “tweeting” & “twittering” to each other (they do that too) and watching the squirrels circling the trees, playing their incessant game of “can’t catch me - can’t catch me” (but he did!!) I have a Rumba (floor cleaning robot) which I usually run at this time and I get quite amused at the way it operates. Generally, it does a good job but sometimes it just goes in circles or, it will go right by a piece of trash several times without picking it up. Then it will get hung up near a wall and just sits there, spinning its wheels aimlessly. I can’t help comparing this machine with a lot of things that go on in my own life. How often I have just gone in circles without accomplishing anything. Many times I have passed right by something important that needed to be done and which I could have done easily but just went on and left it for another time. Also, many times I have just “hit the wall” trying to do something impossible instead of backing off and using that energy for doing something more important. The answer for both Mr. Rumba and me is very simple. All we needed to get our job done right is - guidance and direction. The use of a remote control could accomplish this for Mr. Rumba. If I were smart enough, I could do it by following God’s commandments more closely. God gave me a brain with which I could make good decisions but, even when I know what to do, I don’t always do it. How frustrated God must be when HE sees me making the same mistakes over and over, passing by things that need to be done and wasting my talents and energies needlessly on silly things that do not matter. What a difference my life would be if I permitted Divine guidance to rule my daily life. PRAYER: Dear God - please continue to try to guide me in the direction that my life should go. Help me with my worldliness and fragility. “GUIDE ME O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH” - “I am weak but thou are mighty, hold me with thy powerful hand. Be thou still my strength and shield.” AMEN (Marjorie Hodge) Share |
